"In this exhibition of photographs, Jan Greshoff illuminates the last days of District Six during the cruel destruction of a community. The beautiful buildings are disintegrating, the houses are becoming derelict, the playground is empty, the people are sad, the animals forlorn. The rubble begins to take over, yet, in between, one can glimpse the old District Six. The insouciance of the graffiti shows the passion of the people, the broken moulding depicts a forgotten aspiration, the hawker reminds us of lively banter and the cars of a lost era. Jan Greshoff's photographs are pure poetry. Each scene is a symbol of the past. Each memory a bitter reminder of what was and could have been.".

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book is a collection of excerpts from Charles De Coster's legendary work, "La LÃ gende d'Ulenspiegel", narrated against the backdrop of the brutal Spanish regime in Flanders in the 16th century. It presents a compelling narrative through the adventurous life of Ulenspiegel, a mischievous and endearing folk hero who fights oppression using wit, bravery, and cunning. This book explores resistance to tyranny, the power of love and compassion in the face of cruelty, and the indomitable spirit of those who fight for their freedom. The epic of Ulenspiegel is a testament to the human capacity to find joy and love in desperate times, and to fight on against overwhelming odds for what is right. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
