Cloth. Condition: Very Good. A smart third impression of this cookery book based on the Hay System, created by American physician William Howard Hay. Third impression. A cookbook based on the official book of the Hay System or The Hay Diet, a nutrition method developed in the 1920s that claims to work by separating food into three groups: alkaline, acidic, and neutral. With chapters on alkaline or base forming foods, protein foods, carbohydrate foods, and others. As well as menus and suggestions for the different meals of the day, seasonings, home preserving, vitamins, alcohol, and more. Includes a chapter on weight control which promotes a "reasonable and natural weight" being maintained, especially for women. The food-combining diet has been the subject of one peer-reviewed randomized clinical trial, which found no benefit from the diet in terms of weight loss. Written by Doris Margaret Louise Grant, a British nutritionist and food writer, the inventor of the wartime Grant loaf. With an introduction from William Howard Hay, an American physician and director of The East Aurora Sun and Diet Sanatorium. He is principally known for the 'Hay diet', a food-combining dietary system. In the original full cloth binding. Externally, sound with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Minor fading to the spine with the odd small mark. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd small spot. Minor spotting and light age toning to the endpapers. Very Good. None (illustrator). book.
