Nichols in an early hand (presumed to be the Mass Nichols, as book was obtained from an old medical collection in that state). The work became the basis of part of Gerhard's clinical lectures on the subject at the university of Penn., where he has been described as a very sought after teacher in the field. He is the author of the most authoritative American work on diseases of the chest (1842) prior to Flint." - Garrison & Morton. Cushing G196. Subjects Chest -- Diseases -- Diagnosis. Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book covers the topic of medicine and disease treatment from the perspective of a clinical instructor. The author begins by offering a detailed methodology for students to use, along with their professor or instructor, to improve their approach to observation and diagnosis, and to achieve the best possible results in their practice. The reader is encouraged to follow the book's case studies from their commencement to their conclusion, so the reader may benefit from the author's commentary and experience throughout the process. The book also critiques the way that students and practitioners had been trained and practiced medicine in the late 1800s. The author argues that a great deal of time was being wasted on studying subjects that are only collaterally related to the practice of medicine, such as botany, rather than on subjects directly related to patient care. The author also discusses the problem of overprescribing purgatives for fever patients exclusively, and suggests alternative methods to achieve homeostasis. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
