Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 3rd Edition. Slightly smaller than A5 portrait format hardback with dustjacket which has a plastic protective cover which can be removed if required. But this is NOT an ex-library copy. This is the htird edition and revised although there is no publication date. However, a study of the text has two references to 1951 and the introduction suggests almost 40 years since 1914 so I think it is safe to assume 1952. The book itself extends to 126pp plus an index 13 chapters and 92 drawings or diagrams within the text. Chapter 13 appears to be the new chapter and this was written by Tom Browne, M.A., Headmaster H.M.S. Conway, G.S.M. 1st Heston Sea Scouts. As an aside, HMS Conway was a naval training school or "school ship", founded in 1859 and housed for most of her life aboard a 19th-century wooden ship of the line. The ship was originally stationed on the Mersey near Liverpool, then moved to the Menai Strait during World War II. While being towed back to Birkenhead for a refit in 1953, she ran aground and was wrecked, and later burned. The school moved to purpose-built premises on Anglesey where it continued for another twenty years.…

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book takes a deep dive into the development of one of the simplest and most beautiful prime movers: the turbine. The author, William Hawthorne Stuart-Garnett, traces the evolution of the water turbine from its humble beginnings to the sophisticated machines we use today, providing a detailed look at the principles underlying its action. Beginning with an overview of early water wheels, Stuart-Garnett discusses the contributions of notable inventors such as Poncelet, Burdin, and Fourneyron, highlighting their designs and the problems they sought to solve. He also examines the development of steam turbines, from Hero's aeolipile to the modern machines that power ships and generate electricity. With a focus on the turbine's ingenious mechanism and the scientific principles that govern its operation, this book is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the history and workings of this essential machine.
