Max Eyth als Zeugen zu haben ist sicher sehr schmeichelhaft ich kenne das Buch natürlich aber ich erinnerte mich nicht dieser Stelle. Neulich fragte mich jemand, ob ich Tristram Shandy' kenne [.]". Fritz Behn studierte…an der Kunstakademie München bei Wilhelm von Rümann und schloß sich dem Kreis um Adolf von Hildebrand an. Nach zwei ausgedehnten Ostafrikareisen (190710) meldete er sich 1914 als Kriegsfreiwilliger und arbeitete nach 1919 auf deutschen Soldatenfriedhöfen in Belgien und Frankreich. 192325 hielt er sich in Buenes [!] Aires auf, kehrte nach München zurück und wurde Mitglied der Münchner Sezession und Professor an der Kunstakademie. Behn wurde 1937 Mitglied der Wiener Sezession, 1939 Direktor der Wiener Akademie. 1945 vom Dienst suspendiert und des Ateliers verwiesen, gründete Behn eine Bildhauerschule in Ehrwald/Tirol und kehrte 1951 nach München zurück. Er schuf Tiermonumente, Plastiken (u. a. Tanzender Massai', vor 1915) und Büsten (u. a. Oswald Spengler', vor 1928)" (DBE).

Originalrandiges unbeschnittenes Exemplar. Papier gegilbt und im Rand etwas knickspurig. Rechts unten etwas fleckig. Insgesamt mäßig guter bis guter Zustand.Fritz Behn (1878 Klein Grabow - 1970 München). Deutscher Bildhauer und Grafiker. 1898-1900 Studium an der Kunstakademie in München bei Adolf von Hildebrand und Wilhelm von Rümann. Freundschaft mit dem Prinzregenten Luitpold, der sein Mäzen wurde, ihm die Prinzregent-Luitpold-Medaille und den Professorentitel verlieh. 1907-09 Reisen nach Afrika und Südamerika. 1911/12 Studienaufenthalt in Paris u.a. bei Auguste Rodin. 1914-16 Soldat im Ersten Weltkrieg. Nach dem Krieg lebte er zurückgezogen im Karwendelgebirge. 1923-25 Reise nach Südamerika. Ab 1927 Mitarbeiter für bildende Kunst im Feuilleton des Völkischen Beobachters. 1931/32 Afrikareise. 1939-45 Professor und Leiter der Bildhauerklasse an der Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien. Danach war er freischaffend im Tiroler Ehrwald und ab 1951 wieder in München tätig. Rechts unten in Bleistift signiert: FrBehn. Offenbar eine Arbeit des zeitweise auch in Lübeck lebenden Bildhauers Fritz Behn der vor allem… durch seine Tierplastiken bekannt geworden ist. Die Bronze etwas berieben mit schöner Patina.
