No subject is more discussed today than the relation of monetary policy to commercial and industrial conditions. Informed and uninformed persons are pouring forth books and pamphlets on the gold standard, a managed currency, and allied topics like a violent hailstorm. In this multitude of counsellors there is a good deal more confusion than wisdom. The writers are agreed on one thing only, namely in blaming the Bank of England for all the woes from which we suffer. But this book is not a treatise on the banking system.
