"Kirchenzehnt" ("dixmes ecclesiastiques"), also der seit dem Mittelalter üblichen Forderung der katholischen Kirche an die Gläubigen, die "Decima", einen Zehntel des Ertrages aus der Feldarbeit abzugegen. Grimaudet behandelt außerdem die generelle Machtverteilung zwischen Staat und Kirche, viele seiner Schriften enthalten interessante staatstheoretische Ansätze. Damit ist er Vordenker, auf den sich zwei Jahrhunderte später die Aufklärer mit ihrer Forderung der Trennung von sakraler und profaner Macht beziehen sollten. Wichtige Werke sind: "La paraphrase des droicts des usures" (1577), "La paraphrase du droicts des dixmes ecclesiastiques & infeodées" (1574), "Des Monnoyes" (1576, Kress 162) und "De la puissance royale et sacerdotale". - "Dans ce discours imprimé sous le titre de 'Remontrances aux États d'Anger', il y soutenait entre autres propositions que 'le concile général ne doit pas seulement se composer d'évêques et de prélats, mais aussi de laïques, en sorte que le concile indiqué à Trente devait être nul si les laïques n'y prenaient part" (Hoefer XXII, 84). - Einband etwas berieben, Kapital und Fuß geringf. bestoßen, durchgehend im rechten unteren Blattrand mit Feuchtigkeitsspuren, sonst gutes dekorativ gebundenes Exemplar. Second edition, corrected by the author (first published 1577). Influential treatise on the laws of usury, contracts of redemption and the law of obligations. Monetary inflation was rampant during the French civil war and provoked a debate best known through Jean Bodin's Réponse .à M.de Malestrois (1568). Grimaudet (1520-80), royal lawyer appointed to the assembly at Angers, was respected for his erudition and integrity. A contemporary of Jean Bodin, he wrote several works on public and civil law, but being suspected of tendencies to reform, he was accused of heresy and forced to retire. The preliminaries include a dedicatory preface to Simon de Maillé Archbishop of Tours, sonnets in honour of the author, one of which in Greek, and a 3-page chapter index. En 1560, il prononça, avec une forte sympathie à l'égard des protestants, une harangue à l'assemblée provinciale d'Angers - elle devait choisir des députés pour les Etats de Meaux puis d'Orléans - qui fit sensation : il prônait une sorte de royauté démocratique et réclamait la convocation, par le roi, d'un concile universel (vraiment universel, c'est à dire de tous les chrétiens et pas seulement des évêques) pour éviter la guerre civile qu'il entrevoyait, et s'en prenait tout à la fois au clergé, aux nobles, et aux gens de justice (ces « sangsues du peuple, qui en tirent, sucent le sang et substance) » (Dictionnaire historique des juristes français).Très bon exemplaire.
