He served in the Merchant Marine for 10 years and the RN for 15 before joining the Admiralty where he was mainly involved in salvage work. His opening chapters deal with a general appraisal abour salvage, the personnel and problems involved, salvage vessels and equipment, then moving on to refloating grounded ships, raising, refloating or removing sunken ships, towing those in need of assistance at sea. Subsequent chapters cover wreck dispersal and harbour clearance, submarine recovery, aircraft salvage, medium and deep water recoveries, underwater work --- diving or submersibles, unusual recoveries and marine insurance and legalities. There is also a list of other publications on maritime salvage. First edition of 1977, 179 pages including index, 19 b/w photos, one diagram.
