He graduated from Union College with honor in 1806 and was licensed to preach in 1809. His first settlement was at Nassau, from 1808 to 1813, followed by a period at the First Church of New Brunswick, N.J. He later moved to a large church at Montgomery, N.Y., where he served until his death. Fonda published several pamphlets upon subjects of current interest, and was the author of a valuable practical volume upon The Sacraments. This book is a collection of letters that Fonda wrote to his congregation, providing a detailed explanation of the sacraments, including baptism and the Lord's Supper, and their importance in the Christian faith.
