Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. Before the alien moon. Before the long sleep. Before Rome's Revolution, there was Rei Bierak. Born into a collapsing Earth where superstorms battered the coast and nanoplastics poisoned the water, Rei watched his sister Emily fade and his world fracture. Her death planted a seed: Earth could… no longer protect its children. He swam to a championship. He fell in love with Sally Reynolds, the world's wealthiest heiress. Their romance was intense and tender, but ultimately doomed. After surviving a psychic awakening triggered by the Chama virus, a feverish plague that nearly killed her in Brazil, Sally broke off their engagement but gave Rei a second chance to reach the stars. Before launch, Rei survived an eco-terrorist explosion involving a flying horse carcass, visited his mentor in a crumbling dome, and shared one final, tearful dinner with Sally and his parents. Then came quarantine. The dehydration protocol. The freezing. The fourteen centuries of silence. Rei's Road to the Stars is the emotional prequel to Rome's Revolution 3455 AD: a story of quiet courage, heartbreak, the Ark Program, Antarctic trials, and the revolutionary Eternium Battery. Rei didn't just dream of escape - he earned it. And Sally was right: Rei's true soulmate wasn't on Earth. She was waiting for him among the stars. This item is printed on demand. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability. Brachman, Bruce (illustrator).

Add to basketPaperback. Condition: Near Fine. Book. Complete set of Stephen Willats' seminal periodical 'Control'. First 5 issues: 310 x 225 mm with screenprinted wrappers. Later issues have printed pictorial wrappers and are slightly smaller in format. Since 1965, this pioneering conceptual art magazine has published original artwork and wr…iting from over 150 artists, alongside collectives and collaboratives such as Artists Placement Group. Issue 13 features an original work by Anish Kapoor of an insect-object sprayed blue; together with a photocopy collage intervention by Glenys Johnson entitled Agent Orange. Issue 3 comes complete with inserts: Poem-Blanc by John Sharkey and Peter Upward's untitled painting. This seminal publication is significant for its community-based approach, and its theories based on cybernetics and social science. Its content rejected a traditional mode of criticism and instead concentrated on theoretical ideas, technical models and artistic methods: Control is purely a magazine of art theory, in the sense that it presented text by artists looking at the thinking behind their work (Willats, Publishing Interventions, 2 in In Numbers: Serial Publications by artists since 1955, PPP Editions, Zurich, 1999, p. 129). While within the remit of the art magazine, Control is notable for its interdisciplinary reach. As the artist has commented, the magazine's origins were a reaction to a very strong inheritance from previous decades that constrained the artists into very set roles of painting, sculpture and traditional mediums (ibid).
