After that, Fate introduced countless events which remain, to this day, fodder for paranormal documentaries and investigation. 12mo, illustrated perfect-bound wraps, 130 pp. Near Fine, with a faint small-scale crease at top right of the front cover (see scan), which also faintly creases the first few page corners; micro-wear at a couple other points (see scan). Jacket is a replica created by publisher Gerry De La Ree in the 1970's after being told by Derleth that no additional dustjackets were printed. 1268 copies printed. A landmark in the history of weird fiction and of American publishing. Assembled by August Derleth and Donald Wandrei, it was designed to include the author's best stories along with his monograph "Supernatural Horror in Literature" (1927), which appears here in its fully revised state. Howard Phillips Lovecraft (1890-1937) was born in Providence, Rhode Island, published almost exclusively in pulp magazines, never achieved commercial success during his lifetime, and died at forty-six in poverty.
