Felipe de Guevara (ca. 1500-1563), anticuario y cortesano de Carlos V y Felipe II, recurre a distintas fuentes clásicas, Plinio y Vitruvio principalmente, con el fin de ofrecernos en su tratado de arte una historia de la pintura de la Antigüedad en castellano. Para ello, describe con det…alle las distintas técnicas y géneros pictóricos usados entonces, indicando su utilidad en los tiempos modernos, junto a un listado de pintores antiguos, señalando sus obras más importantes y características sobresalientes. Pero además va intercalando comentarios acerca del arte de su tiempo, entre los cuales han trascendido sobre todo los referidos a la obra de El Bosco, por considerarse una de las primeras interpretaciones sobre la obra de este pintor en España en el siglo xvi. Se dirige en todo momento a los artistas españoles y, lo que es más novedoso, a los aficionados a este arte. Escrita hacia 1560, la primera edición que se conoce es la de Antonio Ponz de 1788, a la que siguió la moderna de Rafael Benet en 1948, si bien sin que incluyese en su realización mayores estudios. Así pues, hasta el momento no se había realizado un análisis pormenorizado ni de su autor ni de la obra, por lo que la presente edición, la primera crítica, viene a suplir esta carencia en el estudio de la teoría del arte español del siglo XVI, sobre todo teniendo en cuenta que se trata de uno de sus textos fundamentales. En ella se sigue por primera vez la redacción de un manuscrito hasta hace poco desconocido y que se conserva en el fondo antiguo de la Biblioteca del Museo Nacional del Prado, procedente de la colección Daza-Madrazo (probablemente, la copia manuscrita que regalara el deán de la catedral de Plasencia a Antonio Ponz en 1787). El resultado es, además, un completo estudio de la vida y obra de Felipe de Guevara, que no sólo fue cortesano, sino que también destacó como coleccionista de pinturas y monedas antiguas, anticuario, numismático y tratadista de arte. *** Nota: Los envíos a España peninsular, Baleares y Canarias se realizan a través de mensajería urgente.
