Full-Leather (Hardcover). Condition: Very Good. Full-Leather (Hardcover), binding condition: Good, 33,5 x 22,5 cm, (2)-48 pp.+ (2)-122, French, illustrations, book condition: Very Good Leather binding with 5 ribs, slight damage to the bottom of the spine, the corners of the covers are damaged, light signs of use on some pages This work is a detailed chronicle and description of an ambitious (but never fully realized to scale) monument in honor of the French poets and musicians from the time of Louis XIV. It contains biographies that are still important sources for historians today. Titon du Tillet wanted to create a bronze "Parnassus" (the mountain of the muses). At the top stood Louis XIV as Apollo, surrounded by figures representing famous French intellectuals such as Molière, Corneille, and Racine. Explanation of the artwork An engraved plate with an image of the French Parnassus, executed in bronze, and 17 plates with images of medallions. Titon du Tillet is only known for the monument of the French Parnassus, which he wanted to erect in honor of the reign of Louis XIV and whose model in bronze was executed by Louis Garnier. At the top of the Parnassus, Louis XIV is depicted as Apollo; below, the Three Graces are represented by the ladies de La Suze, des Houlières, and Scudéry; around the mountain, instead of the Nine Muses: Corneille, Molière, Racan, Segrais, La Fontaine, Chapelle, Racine, Boileau, and Lully holding the medallion of Quinault; medallions represent the less famous men. Titon could not have this large monument erected, which he wanted to see standing in a square or in a public park. [This description may have been translated by AI.]. Nicolas-Henri Tardieu, etc (illustrator).…

8vo. ½ p. To a Mr. Le Coïs, inviting him to pick up a letter by the royal forest administrator Constantin-Marie-Louis-Léon, marquis de Bouthillier-Chavigny: "Le M.is [marquis] de Brézé invite monsieur Le Coïs à vouloir bien passer chez lui soit aujourd'hui sur les 5 heures, soit demain sur les 2 heures après midi, ayant à lui communiquer une lettre qu'il a reçu de M. le M.is de Bouthillier". - Henri-Evrard de Dreux-Brézé is most famous for his failure to enforce the royal order to dissolve the National Assembly on 23 June 1789 due to the resistance of the representatives of the Third Estate. According to legend, Mirabeau directly confronted Dreux-Brézé, telling him to inform the king that they will only leave by force. Dreux-Brézé continued to serve the royal household during their arrest in the Tuileries palace and emigrated to Switzerland in 1793. During the Restauration, he was reinstated in his court functions. - Traces of folds. With a minimal stain.…

["Table de la Relation du mariage"], 3 ff. bl., 11 ff.
