In 2008 he founded the Institute for Software & Systems Engineering and became its scientific director. He has coauthored more than 280 academic publications, led about 30 third-party-funded research projects, and supervised about 40 PhD students.The volume reflects two particularly prominent aspects of Wolfgang's outstanding academic career: the breadth of topics covered by him that range from formal methods, safety, and security over self-organizing systems to robotics, automation, and artificial intelligence methods; and the constant goal of applying innovative theoretical methods to practical applications in competitive, realistic, and large case studies.
