Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. This book continues to explore the question of how Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) can learn from art. It considers how the HCI research agenda can be advanced by looking at art research and how HCI practitioners can improve creativity support and the amplification of that important human c…apability within their work. This book answers these questions from the perspective that interactive art has become a common part of life as a result of the many ways in which the computer and the Internet have facilitated it. HCI is as important to interactive art as color mixing is fundamental to painting. The book reviews recent work that looks at these issues through art research. In interactive digital art, the artist is concerned with how the artwork behaves, how the audience interacts with it, and, ultimately, how participants experience and engage with art. The values of art are deeply human and increasingly relevant to HCI as its focus moves from product design toward social benefits and the support of human creativity. The book examines these issues through a series of case studies and also brings together a collection of research results from art practice that illuminate this significant new and expanding area. In particular, this book points readers toward a much-needed critical language that they can use to describe, compare, and frame research in HCI support for creativity. This second edition updates the material where appropriate and adds a new case study. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Computing, despite the relative brevity of its history, has already evolved into a subject in which a fairly large number of subdisciplines can be identified. Moreover, there has been a noticeable tendency for the different branches of the subject…each to develop its own intellectual culture, tradition and momentum. This is not, of course, to suggest that any individ ual subdiscipline has become a watertight compartment or that developments in one branch of the subject have tended to take place in total isolation from developments in other related areas. Nevertheless, it does mean that a deliberate effort is required in order to bring different subdisciplines together in a fruitful and beneficial manner. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Computer Supported Coopera tive Work (CSCW) jointly constitute a good example of two branches of computing that have emerged separately and given rise to largely distinct research communities and initiatives. On the one hand, the history of AI can be traced back to the 1950s, the term II Artificial Intelligence' being generally attributed to John McCarthy, who first used it in print in 1956. 'Computer Supported Cooperative Work', on the other hand, is a term of more recent coinage, having'been devised by Irene Greif and Paul Cashman in 1984.
