Budde (1842-1921) war ein bedeutender, vielseitig talentierter Physiker, Mathematiker und Elektrotechniker, der seit 1872 aber auch einige Jahre als Journalist und Auslandskorrespondent für die Kölnische Zeitu…ng arbeitete. Zuletzt in Konstantinopel (Istanbul) tätig, kehrte er 1887 nach Berlin zurück und übernahm die Redaktion der Zeitschrift "Fortschritte in der Physik". 1892 trat er eine Stelle als Physiker bei Siemens & Halske an und wurde schon ein Jahr darauf Direktor des Charlottenburger Werkes der Firma. 1899-11 war er Mitglied des Aufsichtsrates von Siemens & Halske und dann bis an sein Lebensende Aufsichtsrat bei den Siemens-Schuckert-Werken. Seine wissenschaftliche Begabung war ausserordentlich vielfältig. Er veröffentlichte zahlreiche Arbeiten zu physikalischen, mathematischen und elektrotechnischen Themen, ein "Lehrbuch der Physik", aber zusammen mit Wilhelm v. Siemens auch ein Buch zu Patentfragen. Daneben entstanden populärwissenschaftliche Werke wie z. B. seine "Naturwissenschaftlichen Plaudereien" und einige Bände mit Erzählungen wie der vorliegende. Daneben befasste er sich mit Kunst und war selbst ausübender Musiker. Mit eigenhändigem Besitzvermerk "Rudolf Weiss". Weiß (1871-1943) war ein Enkel von Carl Weiß, der 1835 Teilhaber an der 1826 von Georg Christian Kessler gegründeten ältesten Sektkellerei Deutschlands in Esslingen a.N. wurde und diese nach dessen Tod 1842 übernahm. Die Familie Weiß blieb weitere 170 Jahre im Besitz der Kellerei. Rudolf trat 1895 in die Firma ein und übernahm diese 1902 von seinem Vater August Weiß. Bemerkenswert ist sein persönliches Engagement für die hervorragenden Werbekampagnen der Firma. Um die Jahrhundertwende beauftragte er damit so namhafte Künstler, wie z. B. Thomas Theodor Heine, Ludwig Hohlwein oder den Simplicissimus-Graphiker Josef Benedikt Engl.
