Sir Henry Lawrence, a man of exceptional talent and ability, (1806-1857) wrote a number of essays and books on Indian subjects but is probably best remembered for his administrative ability, his energy, his sympathies with the Indian aristocracy, his high character and his tragic death in the siege of Lucknow.
