Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. "An Introduction to the World's Greatest" ain't books but rather a boxed set of five, 12-inch, 33-1/3 rpm vinyl jazz LP records, World's Greatest Music Series WGM(S)-2A, "from the catalogue of Roulette Records Birdland Series," the vinyl very-good-plus (no real p…roblems, but these records have been played), four of the five discs marked "Stereo," the box intact and "very good" with some edge rub and what's probably a sticker pull to bottom of rear panel. On the bright side, Charlie Parker and Miles Davis offer "Crazeology" and "Bird Feathers"; Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker bring us "School Days" and "Swing Low Sweet Cadillac"; Art Tatum offers "Dark Eyes"; the Stan Getz Quartet brings us "Hershey Bar"; we find Sonny Stitt with "Spinning" and "Hitsburg." Maynard Ferguson, Sarah Vaughan ("Stormy Weather") and Joe Williams each get a full disc to themselves, set of five now reduced from $12. For Maynard Ferguson fans we'll throw in OUR SECOND BOXED SET of two Roulette LPs, "The Maynard Ferguson Years," K-101, appear to be mono, very-good-plus vinyl in a "good" original 1965 box, including "Hip Twist," "Stella By Starlight," "Mambo La Mans" (sic), "The Party's Over," etc. -- that second boxed set being about a $4 value, the pair of boxed sets now reduced from $14.

Ride a Cock-Horse: Knee-Jogging Rhymes, Patting Songs & Lullabies Compiler / Editor: Sarah Williams Illustrator: Ian Beck Publisher: Guild Publishing, London (Book Club Associates edition, by arrangement with Oxford University Press) Publication Year: 1988 (1st Thus / Book Club reprint…of the 1986-1988 OUP original) ISBN / Code: CN 2846 Format: Hardcover with pictorial laminated boards (no separate dust jacket issued for this edition) Size: 20 cm wide × 26 cm tall (quarto) Pages: 48 pages (including illustrated endpapers) Illustrations: Full-colour throughout, with bold, charming full-page pictures and small action diagrams for each rhyme Condition: Near Fine / Excellent (bright, clean copy with no inscriptions, no tears, minimal shelf wear; boards bright and glossy; pages crisp and unmarked) A delightful collection of traditional knee-jogging rhymes, patting songs, bouncing rhymes, and gentle lullabies specially chosen for babies and toddlers. Each rhyme is accompanied by Ian Beck's large, colourful, and joyful illustrations that perfectly capture the playful spirit of the verses. Simple diagrams show parents exactly how to perform the actions (bouncing on the knee, clapping, rocking, etc.), making this an ideal interactive first book for sharing with little ones. Highlights include classics such as "Ride a Cock-Horse to Banbury Cross", "Trot, Trot, Trot", "Rock-a-Bye Baby", "Golden Slumbers", "Dance, Little Baby", "Rub-a-Dub-Dub", "Higgledy-Piggledy", and many more. The book is divided into themed sections: Knee-Jogging Rhymes, Bouncing and Dancing Rhymes, Patting and Clapping Rhymes, and Lullabies and Rocking Rhymes. The Compiler - Sarah Williams Sarah Williams is a highly regarded anthologist of nursery rhymes and children's verse. A former playgroup leader, she compiled these collections after noticing how few traditional rhymes were known to many modern families. She has created several beloved books for Oxford University Press, including Round and Round the Garden, Pudding and Pie, and The Oxford Nursery Treasury, all aimed at reviving interactive play rhymes for the very youngest children. Illustrator - Ian Beck Ian Beck (b. 1947, Hove, Sussex) is one of Britain's best-loved children's illustrators and authors. After studying illustration and graphic design at Brighton College of Art, he began his career as a successful freelance illustrator for magazines, record sleeves, and advertising. He turned to children's books in the early 1980s when his own children were young, and quickly became known for his warm, colourful, and expressive style. His work has been translated into more than 20 languages and includes many classic fairy tales, nursery rhyme collections, and his own popular picture books and fiction series (e.g., the Tom Trueheart adventures). The illustrations in Ride a Cock-Horse (© 1986) are a perfect example of his joyful, child-friendly talent. This is the charming 1988 Guild Publishing hardcover edition (not the later paperback reissues). A lovely gift for new parents or a nostalgic addition to any children's book collection. Ian Beck (illustrator).

Soft cover. Condition: New. 1st Edition. xix, 259 pages : illustrations (chiefly colour), plans, maps ; 30 cm. Summary:With such ancient beginnings, Zoroastrianism is as remarkably enduring as it is venerable. It has also been influential beyond its own followers, interacting with other, younger faiths: especially their views on… evil, messianic notions and ideas about the last days. The power of its sacred scriptures, the Gathas, and the resonance of the message of its founder, Zarathustra (or Zoroaster) transformed it from small beginnings into the principal religion of Iran until the advent of Islam. This richly illustrated book explores the chief themes of Zoroastrianism: its rise during the second millennium BCE; its doctrines, rituals and teachings; its growth into the foremost faith of the Achaemenid and Parthian empires; its consolidation under the Sasanians; its expansion east to China; and the impact it had on Judaism, Christianity and Islam. From Iran to the west coast of India, the story continues with the maritime exodus of the Zoroastrians and their settlement as an immigrant community (now called 'Parsis') under British colonial rule. With chapters by world-leading authorities, this is a vital record of the arts, literatures and cultures of one of the world's most fascinating religious traditions.
