First edition (not stated but with matching dates upon title and copyright pages) INSCRIBED, DATED, AND SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR. xvi, 384 pages. Hardcover: H 24cm x L 16cm. Black dust jacket rubbed with creases, short tears, and scuffs at edges; front flap is not price-clipped. Black cloth with vibrant silver stamping to spine. Author's five-line ink inscription "For Dorothy, | With gratitude | and intense | admiration, | Nate | Sept. 22, '71" upon the front free endpaper; the inscribee is Dr. Dorothy Ross (1936-2024) who earned her Ph.D. from Columbia University and taught at Princeton (1972-1976) and at the University of Virginia (1978-1990) thereafter being the Arthur O. Lovejoy Professor of History at Johns Hopkins University from 1990-2007. Several page corners creased from fold-downs; a cursory perusal did not reveal any underlining/marginalia but such markings were so prevalent among books in Dr. Ross' extensive academic collection, that it seems wise to add a caveat that a terse annotation or two may have simply eluded discovery. Binding is firm. ISBN 0674471709.

Soft cover. Condition: As New. 1st Edition. First edition, 1st printing, of the catalogue for the exhibition in 2007 at the Williams College Museum of Art. Pristine, clean & tight copy, unread in AS NEW condition, a perfect paperback with French flaps, quite presentable. "Paris in the 1920s---art, literature, the Lost Generation. The glitterati who inhabited this legendary world---F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, Pablo Picasso, Cole Porter, Man Ray, Dorothy Parker and a host of others---were members of an intimate circle centered around Sara and Gerald Murphy. The Murphys, who endeavored to make art of their own lives, embodied a predominant theme of the 1920s: life as one would like it to be versus life as it is. MAKING IT NEW is a captivating and absorbing collection of essays examining through images and text the Murphys' influence on a remarkable constellation of artists---from multiple points of view, the Murphys' artistically adventurous way of life and their ability to confer distinction on everything, from the inconsequential to the grand. This beautifully illustrated volume features art by Gerald Murphy, Pablo Picasso, Fernand Leger, Man Ray & many others, in addition to numerous documentary photographs.".
