Schon der Vater Verlegers Charles Louis Fleury Panckoucke (17801844), Charles Joseph Panckoucke (* 26. November 1736 in Lille; 19. Dezember 1798), war ein sehr bedeutender Verleger, der sich nach seiner Lehre beim Gründungsverleger der Encyclopédie ou Dictionnaire raisonné des sciences, des arts et des métiers André-François Le Breton in Paris niederliess und wenig später die Rechte an eben jener Encyclopädie erwarb und viele bedeutende Werke druckte. Sein Sohn tat es ihm gleich und druckte u.a. Lettres de Voltaire et Rousseau; das Dictionnaire des sciences médicales (60 Bde., 181222); die Victoires et conquêtes des Français (27 Bde., 181627); die Description de lÉgypte, ein Prachtwerk in 25 Bänden mit 900 Kupfern, das Napoleon I. beginnen, Ludwig XVIII. vollenden ließ; die Barreaux français et anglais (19 Bde., 1821ff.); die Bibliothèque latine-française (178 Bde., 182639 und 34 Bde., 184249), eine kostbar ausgestattete Sammlung römischer Klassiker mit französischer Übersetzung, (er selbst lieferte dazu die Übersetzung sämtlicher Werke des Tacitus). Die hier vorliegende luxuriöse ein lateinische Ausgabe dürfte wohl die großformatigste Tacitus-Ausgabe überhaupt sein (Rückenhöhe über einen halben Meter) und ist praktisch unauffindbar. Die Buchblöcke sind in den erneuerte Rücken sehr sachkundig und fest aufgebunden, Deckel und Innen vereinzel etwas fleckig, breitrandig und sehr großzügig gesetzt. la Gewicht in Gramm: 10500 Imperial Folio. [56 cm x 39 cm] Bedruckter Originalpappband mit erneuerten Halblederrücken und Rückentitel.
