8vo, 246x166mm), [xvi adverts], 377-560, [4 adverts]p. Lawrence's short story occupying pages 461 - 469. Original printed wrappers, faded at the edges, the spine replaced with near-contemporary paper of a similar colour, a small piece torn (without text loss) from the head-fore corner of the final two advertisement leaves. Preserved in a modern cloth covered solander box. The first publication of one of D.H. Lawrence's earliest short stories, in this case a tale which had been written in the summer of 1911 although this published version differs slightly from the manuscript and concerns two sisters who meet after being apart for some time and, inevitably I suppose, one of them takes to a young swain. Other contents include contributions from John Masefield, John Galsworthy, George Moore, &c., and a portrait of Masefield by William Strang.
