Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. "Phineas Finn" is the second novel in Anthony Trollope's celebrated Palliser series, following the trajectory of a charming and ambitious young Irishman as he navigates the complex world of Victorian British politics. As Phineas wins a seat in the House of Commons, he must balance his person…al integrity with the demands of party loyalty and the shifting tides of parliamentary reform. His journey is further complicated by his romantic entanglements with several influential women, each representing different facets of social and political power.Trollope provides a masterly and insightful portrayal of the inner workings of government, the nuances of the legislative process, and the social hierarchies of 19th-century London. The work stands as a cornerstone of political fiction, blending sharp social commentary with a compelling character study of a man striving for success in a world of privilege and tradition. This first volume introduces readers to the charismatic protagonist and the high-stakes environment of the Westminster elite, offering a vivid window into the debates and scandals that defined the era. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. Add to basketStaplebound. Condition: Very good +. First Edition. Thin 12mo, 15pp., illustrated. Very good or better in the publisher's stapled printed wraps. Staples rusted and the binding rather tender, but sound. Contents clean and sharp. An illustrated exhibition catalogue for this unique offering of some important household and office it…ems from Charles Dickens, offered alongside some first edition and handsomely bound collections by E. P. Dutton, the American publisher (back when a new book publisher might also sell things of this kind to the public). Included herein are such varied items as his travel desk, an ink well, a soup ladle, a hat brush, and a set of six chairs which had been sold from his estate at Gad's Hill. Each item is priced (some items as little as $100, others more than $3,000), and each is advertised as being accompanied by an affidavit attesting to the provenance. A wonderful little catalogue, which evidences the superstar status of Dickens in the world of bibliophilia during the early 20th century in America. Retain by five esteemed libraries, according to OCLC, each with extensive Dickens collections. Scarce in the trade, and at home in any Dickens collection. Per Yale's website, their copy is in the Gimbel Collection (naturally), though it does not appear in the exhaustive published catalogue.
