Der Autor (1903-1996), heute fast vergessen, war selbst eine höchst interessante Persönlichkeit. Er mußte 1933 nach seiner Schauspielerausbildung von Stuttgart nach Prag emigrieren und nahm dort zuerst…das Schriftstellerpseudonym Fritz Walter Nielsen an. Von dort aus wandte er sich mit seinen Exilschriften leidenschaftlich gegen die Nazidiktatur in Deutschland und nannte früh die Dinge beim Namen. Er klagte Himmler als Massenmörder an, als das Ausland die KZs noch für Greuelmächen hielt, bezeichnete Goebbels im Zuge der Bücherverbrennungen als Henker des deutschen Geistes und warnte 1938 mit seiner Schrift "Appell an die Welt" nach dem Münchner Abkommen, klar und eindeutig vor der Kriegstreiberei Hitlers. Bei der deutschen Besetzung der Tschechoslowakei stand er auf der Gestapo-Suchliste an prominenter Stelle, konnte aber entkommen und lebte dann in England und den USA. Erst 1960 kam er nach Deutschland zurück und engagierte sich hier gegen Rüstungswahn, Ausländerhass und Neonazismus. 1991 gab er aus Protest gegen den 1. Irakkrieg seine amerikanische Staatsbürgerschaft zurück. Sprache: de.

Eine der größten Tragödinnen der Theatergeschichte und neben Sarah Bernhardt weltbedeutendste Schauspielerin ihrer Zeit. Sie entstammte einer Schauspielerfamilie, stand mit vier Jahren schon auf der Bühne und spielte bereits m…it 15 Jahren die Hauptrolle in Romeo und Julia in der Arena von Verona. Ab 1879 war sie erste Schauspielerin der Truppe von Cesare Rossi und gründete 1886 ihre eigene Theaterkompagnie "Drammatica Compagnia della Citta di Roma". Obwohl sie nur auf Italienisch spielte, gastierte sie in der ganzen Welt. Entscheidend auf ihrer Suche nach einer neuen Dramatik wurde ihre Begegnung mit Gabriele d'Annunzio, in vielen Uraufführungen seiner Stücke spielte sie Hauptrollen. Nach dem ersten Weltkrieg zog sie sich vom Theater zurück, kam aber 1921, auf Grund finanzieller Schwierigkeiten, nochmals auf die Bühne zurück und startete 1923 auch noch eine Amerika-Tournee, auf der sie gesundheitlich schwer angeschlagen in ihrem Hotelzimmer in Pittsburgh an einer Lungenentzündung starb.
