Text block with top edge gilt. Monochrome and colour plates (8 in Vol. I, 5 in Vol. II). Boards rubbed; corners bumped and worn; ends of spine starting to fray and with a couple of short tears at head of Vol. II; spines slightly darkened. Bookplate of Donald Dewar (inaugural First Minister of Scotland) to front pastedown of Vol. I; bookplate of Gilbert A. Tidswell to front pastedowns of both volumes. Rear endpapers lightly toned; a little foxing to preliminary pages and a couple of plates; otherwise almost entirely clean. Front hinge in Vol. I cracked; gutter between frontispiece and title page in Vol. II cracked; a few other mildly cracked gutters but pages remain firmly bound. Ex libris Donald C. Dewar. All plates present.
