MAGDA DONATO (Madrid, 1898-México, 1966) es seudónimo de Carmen Eva Nelken, periodista, escritora y actriz, y una de las figuras de la primera mitad del siglo XX que merece ser rescatada del olvido. Desde los diecinueve años empieza a colaborar en El Imparcial y de ahí en adelante su presencia en el mundo periodístico de la capital será constante. Encontraremos su firma en España, La Tribuna, El Liberal, El Heraldo de Madrid, Informaciones, Blanco y Negro. Hasta que en 1928 inicia su colaboración de manera casi exclusiva con el diario Ahora y el semanario Estampa. En los años treinta realiza una serie de reportajes, que ella misma denomina «vividos», en los que para escribirlos antes ha de pasar algún tiempo de incógnito en los medios que quiere describir. De esta forma Magda Donato logra comprender más de cerca los ambientes marginales y consigue entrar en contacto con experiencias humanas problemáticas. Casi la totalidad de los «reportajes vividos» se ocupan de temas relativos a la vida de las mujeres en su dimensión social. La periodista hace confluir en sus escritos, síntesis de compromiso republicano, periodismo moderno y sensibilidad literaria, tres aspectos de su experiencia: la fe en la posibilidad del periodismo de incidir en la realidad para mejorarla, su compromiso feminista y su vena literaria. Estos artículos, que abarcan casi todo el periodo republicano hasta el dramático comienzo de la guerra (el último sale el 19 de julio de 1936), son en su mayoría un testimonio del interés de la escritora por participar en un proyecto político donde se proponía la mejora de las condiciones de vida de las clases populares. MARGHERITA BERNARD es profesora titular de Literatura Española en la Universidad de Bérgamo. Ha estudiado con profundidad la transformación de los códigos poéticos y teatrales en los años veinte y treinta del siglo pasado, publicando artículos sobre Juan Larrea, Altolaguirre y una monografía sobre Azorín, Sulla scena. Azorín e il teatro (2002). También se ha ocupado de obras teatrales de escritoras próximas al ámbito de la generación del 27, resultado de este trabajo es la edición del volumen de ensayos Teatro y mujer en España. De los años 20 a la posguerra (2006) y la publicación de algunas obras inéditas de teatro infantil de Concha Méndez: El pez engañado. Ha corrido una estrella. Las barandillas del cielo (2006). En los últimos años se ha dedicado al estudio de la presencia de escritoras en la prensa publicando Papel de mujeres/Mujeres de papel.
