Hard Cover. Condition: Very Good. Picasso, Pablo (illustrator). First Edition. Introduction by Georges Boudaille. Translations by Edouard Roditi. Illustrated with full-page reproductions of Picasso's sketches. First edition, first printing. Publisher's white cloth, illustrated and lettered in various colors, and illustrated endpapers; in its original green slipcase covered in maroon and yellow paper, with illustrated panels, and one-third plastic wrap titled in gold. Very good or better book, with some spotting and toning to cloth, and some wear to spine; very good slipcase, with some staining and wear to top edge, and light staining and wear to upper front panel. With "Notice to the Reader" laid in. Overall, a beautiful copy of this magnificent facsimile of Picasso's late 1950s sketchbooks. This book faithfully reproduces three of Pablo Picasso's sketchbooks, the first of which spans June 13, 1957-July 15, 1959, the second March 2-March 12, 1959, and the third a single day, April 3, 1959. Additionally, the book includes 16 washing drawings, all of which were executed on October 4, 1959. According to the "Notice to the Reader": ". we have reproduced the sheets exactly as they are in the sketchbooks, 'blemishes' and all, and even the paper for these facsimiles was specially grained and tinted to approximate the original. That is perhaps why the drawings in this book seem almost a personal communication to the viewer, from the hand of the artist." Picasso produced the book in collaboration with legendary bullfighter Luis Miguel Dominguín (1926 - 1996) - the two shared a close friendship through the 1950s and '60s, with Picasso often going to watch Dominguín fight in French arenas.
