Das Frontispiz zeigt in der mittleren der drei Darstellungen das Aufstellen einer "Fahne" auf dem Gipfel, was… Desor auf S. 88 so beschreibt: "Es wurde also beschlossen, Agassiz's Bergstock, den längsten von allen, aufzupflanzen, und ich war bereit, mein Schnupftuch zu opfern und es als Fähnlein an den Stock zu befestigen. Einer der Führer aber fand das seidene Tuch doch zu schön . und bat um die Erlaubniß, sein Schnupftuch dagegen vertauschen zu dürfen. So stoppelten wir denn aus einem tannenen Alpenstock und einem rothen Lumpen eine Art Fahne zusammen, welche Jakob auf dem Gipfel aufpflanzte". - Frontispiz rückseitig mit handschriftl.
