Le volume proposé est donc le premier publié et figure parmi les premiers ouvrages de neurochirurgie. // FIRST ISSUE OF THE FIRST NEUROSURGICAL JOURNAL (YEARBOOK) IN THE WORLD // Antony Chipault (1866-1920), qui a notamment exerçé à La Salpêtrière, est un des tout premiers pionniers de la neurochirurgie. L'oeuvre de ce chirurgien solitaire, infatigable et prématurément disparu, est considérable et novatrice. Les "études" (mémoires) figurant dans ce volume, classées en 3 chapitres (chirurgie du crâne et du cerveau, chirurgie du rachis et de la moelle, chirurgie des nerfs et études diverses) sont "basées sur des faits personnels". Pour 3 d'entre elles, Chipault s'est adjoint la collaboration de 2 confrères chirurgiens et d'un dessinateur.
