Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book offers an intimate look at the life of a prominent figure in fifteenth-century France: Philip de Commines. A nobleman who rose to serve as a key advisor to the powerful Duke of Burgundy, Commines was a man of considerable political acumen and ambition. The book recounts his l…ife, spanning the reigns of Louis XI and Charles VIII of France, during which time he navigated a complex web of alliances, betrayals, and shifting political allegiances. The author, delving deeply into historical records, provides a nuanced portrait of Commines, detailing his rise to prominence and his eventual defection to the French court. Throughout the narrative, the book explores the turbulent world of late medieval politics, where power was often wielded through cunning, intrigue, and the manipulation of alliances. The author illuminates the motivations and machinations of the prominent figures of the era, revealing the intricate machinations that underpinned the political landscape of France and Burgundy. The book's intimate portrait of Commines, a man who operated at the heart of this tumultuous period, offers valuable insights into the social, political, and moral climate of fifteenth-century Europe.
