Front flyleaf bears ownership signature in blue ink of H. Sidney Heersma (1909-2009), notable Kalamazoo, Michigan pediatrician and Michigan medical figure. Below this he pens an inscription in black ballpoint to a noted Michigan pediatric medicine figure: "12-6-96 / To a great teacher / Ralph Gordon / Sid H." Interesting copy.

A wonderful document of the line of connection between Middle America, the wider world, and immigration into the US. - Deals with Duke University Medical Center, through the life and work of Davison, Dean of the Medical School from 1927-1960. Davison was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, studied at Princeton, Oxford, and Johns Hopkins. - Inscription from the editor is to Dr. Charles Takeo Ozaki, born in Florida, and one of the University of Florida's College of Medicine's first graduates and the college's first Japanese-American graduate; son of first generation Japanese immigrants; in World War II he served in the U.S. Army's distinguished 442nd Regiment. His son went on to become a leading vascular surgeon. The book is a material document of the tremendous value of immigration into the US across the last century.
