Contact seller5-star sellerCondition: FINE. First thus- a trade paperback. A book with articles by more than 30 contributors - on the "chemical, biological, cultural, psychological, and experiential dimensions of psilocybin mushrooms." It includes firsthand accounts of the Harvard Psilocybin Project, including the Concord Prison and Good Friday studies -…the editor, Ralph Metzner, was part of that project with Timothy Leary and Richard Alpert (later Ram Dass). "Teonancatl was the name given to the visionary mushrooms used in ancient Mesoamerican shamanic ceremonies, mushrooms that contain psilocybin, the psychoactive agent identified by Swiss chemist Albert Hofmann, the discoverer of LSD. The rediscovery of these visionary mushrooms by the Mazatec healer Maria Sabina and mycologist R. Gordon Wasson ignited a worldwide mushroom culture that inspired the consciousness revolution of the 1960s." Illustrated, notes and references at the end of each article. 293 pp. Fine in glossy illustrated wrappers.

Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. After a superb lifetime contribution to education and public life generally Sir James Darling at the age of 81 took up his pen to write the first of his "Reflections" as a fortnightly column on the Age editorial page. One of the challenges he had was… to confine each of the essays to the required 600 words to fit the editorial page. That he did so in his elegant, succinct prose is a tribute to his mastery of language. More than thirty-five years after the first of his "Reflections" were published, to read these essays today, they remain as fresh, relevant and challenging as the day they were written.

First and only edition: there was another issue (undated) with a London bookseller added to the imprint, but clearly this is th…e original issue, even though some cataloguers date that one to 1800. This skilful versification of the Gospels is posthumously published: Ralph Darling (1728-98) had been a physician and twice Mayor of Hull. The book was issued by subscription, and as might be supposed, the majority of those taking copies were from Hull or surrounding areas. William Wilberforce, who MP for Hull at this time and was of course a very earnest member of the Clapham Sect, is among those listed. Johnson, Provincial Poetry, 251 (the Hull-London issue).
