According to Orwell's second wife, Sonia (as quoted in Peter Davidson's introduction), "George always threw away all his [manuscripts], letters etc., so his actual working methods are very badly documented." His manuscripts that have survived are generally typescript, making this facsimile of the original handwritten manuscript particularly interesting.
