Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This volume focuses on recent developments in our understanding of selected adhesion processes that may offer new approaches to developing therapeutics for a variety ofdiseases. The volume first introduces the molecules involved in key adhesive pro…cesses, then describes the biological consequences of several adhe sive interactions, and closes with a description of the initial therapeutic ap proaches to antagonizing. adhesion. These papers were originally presented at the SmithKline Beecham Pharmaceuticals Seventh U. S. Research Symposium held in Philadelphia in October of 1992. ofacell to asurface. In its simplestsense, cellularadhesion is the adherence The cells of interest in the context of this volume are bacterial and mammalian, with an emphasis on leukocytes; surfaces can be other cells and tissues (such as bone), matrix proteins, or inanimate objects such as in-dwelling medical devices and catheters. Interaction between adhesion molecules usually results in a spe cific biological response. Adhesion is a form ofcellularcommunication, and represents the way a cell senses its environment through contact. Like hormones and cytokines, the sol uble mediators used by cells for communication, adhesion molecules are defined molecular entities that recognize specific receptor structures on the surface to which they adhere. Recent activity has focused on defining the structure of the individual molecules responsible for many types ofcellularadhesion. New adhe sion proteins are being cloned with the help of specific antibodies and precise functional assays.

Softcover. Condition: Very Good. No Dust Jacket. No date [c1985? (page x, Introduction includes reference to a publication from 1980)].This is the text of an 1864 diary by Lt.-Col. Edward Arthur Williams. Edited by B. J Dalton. [1], xv, [3], (2)-65 leaves. With 22 tipped-in laser printed illustrations, of which 1 is an illustrat…ion of the author, and 21 are colour photocopies of the sketches in Williams's diary. Red plastic "Gestetner Velo-Bind" stationery binding, with clear plastic covers. Leaves printed on one side only. Page dimensions: A4 (297 x 210mm). Appears to be a photocopied typescript. No publisher's imprint. Presumably only a few copies printed in this form. "I am grateful to T.P. Garrity, Curator of Pictures, Hocken Library for permission to produce this edition of the Williams' Journal, and to Rosemary Entwhistle who introduced me to the other splendid Williams' paintings in the Hocken collection." - from the Acknowledgements, page xv. Dalton's Introduction is on pages i-xiv. At the rear are notes numbered 1-99, 1-37 on pages 48-63, "Sources" on pages 64-65, and "Further Reading" on page 65. The Hocken Library's PDF "New Zealand Wars : Sources at the Hocken Collections : Part 2 1860s and 1870s" notes: "We have a large collection (126 items) of Edward Arthur Williams' watercolour sketches, which include images of soldiers, camps and military constructions in the Waikato and Taranaki. Williams was a commander of the Royal Artillery who served in New Zealand from 1864 to 1866. You can view many of these sketches online via Hakena. There is also a diary of Williams [Misc-MS-1085] describing, possibly in an exaggerated or fictional style, a colonel's journey through the Waikato in 1864."] B. J. Dalton was the author of "War and politics in New Zealand, 1855-1870" (1967). He was a Professor at James Cook University.
