First Edition
Card Cover. Condition: Good. First Editon. pages 76, b/w maps. Shelf wear. Green ink marks to top edge of card covers and some pages. 1/2" split to fold at top end of spine. This book was sent to press in 1974 just after the Portuguese governent was deposed in a military coup bring to an end 48 years fo fascist rule in Portugal. This occurrence posed a problem: since much that is described in this book in the present tense had by the time the proofs were checked, become matters of the past. Two reasons caused the book to be published, onewas that apart from some few academicv works not easily accessible, there was virtually no work in English covering the themes dealt with here and second and more importantly, there was a need in the rapidly changing and uncertain situation for an account of what Portuguese colonialism was, against which readers may evaluate for themselves the nature and extent of all the profound changes which the events of April 1974 set in motion. Illustrated Cover.
