First published in 1897.In the publisher's decorative original green cloth. Contains twelve colour plates, and twelve monochrome plates, illustrated by British artist George Denholm Armour. Collated complete.Originating from a request by his brother to write him a book, Fortescue wanted to create a story that celebrated one of our native animals, rather than a human, and so he wrote a tale following the life of the red-deer. Accompanied with beautiful illustrations, the reader also encounters other friends and foes of the red-deer, including pheasants and foxes. In the publisher's original green cloth.
