First edition of the celebrate…d investigation of the personal papers of Robespierre and his followers carried out by the Convention after his death to expose his tyrannical ambitions. 121 letters by Robespierre, Saint-Just, Collot d'Herbois, Couthon and others (described on pp104-408) implicate the deputies in treasonous conspiracy. On Pp 155-161 are listed those condemned to deportation to Cayenne with details of their alleged crimes. The Convention had appointed the regicide Courtois (1750-1816), who owed his post of deputy of the Department of L'Aube to his friend Danton, to form a commission to examine the evidence. Robespierre's papers are a major source on the French Revolution; they were finally published in 1828. Occasional light age staining. He was elected to the Legislature as Deputy of the Aube region and the National Convention in 1787. He was among the group that took an inventory of Robespirre's papers, including Marie Antoinette's will. The collection contained works by Voltaire, Rousseau, Locke, Bacon,and Pope.
