Collection of separately paginated dramatic works issued as Vol. 13 of Inchbald's's British Theatre, each play with its own title page and frontispiece; 12mo, in contemporary early nineteenth century half calf (somewhat worn with very minor loss to extremities, early owners ink inscription to front pastedown). Occasional spotting and paper browning but overall a very good copy.

Condition: Poor. New edition (first thus?). HB. Leather spine and corners over marbled paper-covered boards. Octavo. 62pp; 90pp, 63pp. With frontispiece engravings to the Beggar's Opera and Congreve's The Mourning Bride. Three plays published in one volume. Poor condition. The contents (pages) are fair to good, but the covers are very worn and rubbed, with the front board detached and the rear board held by one thread; the spine leather very dessicated. Contents all present but many pages browned or grubby, first engraving has an old stain from red wax over it, second one repaired tear; original owner's name in various places and date (Nicholas and Wm Greaves, 1782, Bakewell).

A very nice title, with engraved frontispiece portrait of Charles Earl of Dorset, title frontispiece, portrait frontispiece to Persius, and 22 other engraved plates. 12mo, cxi (dedicatory preface by Dryden), Table, 296 pages. In full contemporary calf, somewhat worn, front joint and hinge neatly repaired. Owners' names to endpapers and title page, otherwise very clean and sound. ESTC ref T123512. Dryden translated a number of Juvenal's satires himself, and selected others, including his sons Charles and John, to translate the rest. The Persius satires are all by Dryden, with an introductory letter by Congreve.

Full-Leather. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. Bound in contemporary full leather binding with four raised bands to the spine. The title panel on the spine has been lost. The spine has light chipping at the top and light edge cracking. The corners are bumped with some light rubbing. Browning to the edges of the endpapers. This book belonged to the Wale family of Shelford near Cambridge and there is a bookplate to the front pastedown along with a name, Lady Wale to the the front free endpaper which also has 'Wale' and '1900' in pencil. Brown stain to the title page and the first page of the text. The pages are a little browned but otherwise generally unmarked. First printing.

Love for Love A comedy, written by Mr Congreve printed by J & R Tonsen & S Draper London 106pp. each play has an engraving with a scene from the play, the Congreve title pages have a vignette of him in an oval frame. Bound in contemorary calf with raised bands gilt title and embelishments to the compartments now all very faded git ruling to the outside of the boards hinges `weak and starting but holding well.
