In the original blue patterned dust jacket: toned, extremities chipped, chip to spine. Very good/ very good A pleasing copy of the seventh title in Francis Birrell's Representative Women series, which sought "to prove to the adorable adepts of our night clubs that there is a standard up to which they should at any rate attempt to live." Francis Birrell (1889-1935) was a journalist, drama critic and bookseller. From 1919 to 1924 he ran a bookshop with David Garnett at 19 Taviton Street, Bloomsbury (retaining his interest until 1927). Sir Edward Clive Milnes Coates (1879-1971) of Helperby Hall, Yorkshire had succeeded his father as 2nd Baronet in 1921. He achieved the rank of Captain in the 15th Hussars during WWI and was Military Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland. He was appointed an OBE in 1919.
