Collection of panegyrics of Roman emperors from the 1st to the 4th century (Trajan, Maximian Augustus, Julian the Apostate, Constantine I and II, Theodosius the Great) by Pliny the Younger, Mamertinus, Eumenes, Nazaire and Drepanius Pacatus. This was used as a source for Edward Gibbon's Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, based on auction records showing that his bookplate appeared in a copy sold by Maggs. Contents include: C. Aus dem antiken Griechenland sind festliche Vorträge etwa von Lysias oder Isokrates überliefert, die man als panegyrikós bezeichnete. Im Römischen Reich verstand man unter einem panegyricus eine Laudatio, insbesondere eine lobende Rede zur Ehrung des Kaisers.
