The engineer Teofilo Tabanera, already back from his trip through Europe and the United States and excited by the appearance of interplanetary societies around the world, attempted, in 1948, to create a company…in Argentina. Unfortunately, he had very little response, he was not able to find the necessary number of members and had to wait. His determination made him try again a year later and he created the Argentine Interplanetary Society (SAI) in 1949, with only four partners. Between 1949 and 1951, Tabanera was Minister of Economy, Public Works and Irrigation of the Province of Mendoza. Due to his obligations, he had to postpone some of the activities related to astronautics. In 1949, Tabanera, together with other scholars, formed the Argentine Interplanetary Society (SAI). This society publishes newsletters and manages to reach a thousand members. Six years later, the First South American Astronautics Exhibition was held in the Casa de la Provincia de Mendoza, which provided its facilities. Large models of satellites were exhibited and were recognized as a success. One cannot fail to mention his contributions - as a member and then vice president - of the International Federation of Astronautics, an organization that continues today with the publication of books, teaching courses and made up of different professionals with the aim of getting closer to space. Most of this information comes to us from the important "Brochure of the First South American Astronautics Exhibition. Editorial Atom, 1955, p. 7."
