The site is traditionally owned and jointly managed by the Gun-djeihmi-speaking Bininj/Mungguy people alongside Parks Australia. George Chaloupka was a pioneering expert on Australian Aboriginal rock art who extensively documented Burrungkuy (Nourlangie Rock) in Kakadu National Park.
