First edition thus. 580pp. (lacking the half-title page), and a 4 page catalogue dated June 1827. Thomas Scott (1747-1821) was an influential English preacher and author. He is probably best known for his 'A Commentary On The Whole Bible' and 'The Force of Truth'. He was also one of the founders of the Church Missionary Society. This edition of his Tracts is printed from the separated editions of those Tracts, which were revised by himself, previous to his death. Contents are: The Force of Truth; The Warrant and Nature of Faith in Christ; A Discourse on repentance; A Treatise on Growth in Grace; and On Election and Final Perseverance. The book is bound in contemporary full leather boards with titling on a leather label on the spine. This copy has been in the Edinburgh Theological Library and there is a small gold stamp of the library on the top of the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with some expected scuffing and light staining to the leather on the boards and spine. The corners are lightly bumped with a little damage and loss to the leather on the top corners. There is a thin crack in the leather running down the middle of the spine and there is some damage and loss of about 1/8" of the leather at the top of the spine. There is a thin split in the leather on the top 2" of the front spine edge and down the length of the rear spine edge. The contents are tight and clean with a little underlining and neatly written ink notes on some of the first 73 pages, including the introductory essay. The title page has 'Ex Libris Bibliothecae Theologicae Edinensis' written near the top edge and a name and place has been written on the front free endpaper. There is a label from the Theological Library on the front fixed endpaper.
