Es el aroma de los días que no deja nada como era antes.Novela coral, relata las vicisitudes de una familia en el transcurso de tres generaciones, desde comienzos del siglo XX hasta la posguerra de la II Guerra Mundial. En la primera parte se cuenta la historia del matrimonio entre Giulia y Giovanni Barrieri. Nacen cuatro hijos, tan distintos de carácter como lo suelen ser los hijos entre ellos. A pesar de los acontecimientos históricos en que se ven involucrados (la primera guerra mundial, la gripe española, el nacimiento del fascismo) crecen en la serenidad familiar, bajo la mirada vigilante y preocupada de una madre fuerte y prudente mientras el fascismo, lentamente, impregna la vida cotidiana.Las dos guerras europeas y el fascismo conforman el marco de la historia de los Barrieri y de quienes están a su alrededor, ya sean malvados o buenos, desde el doctor Marinucci hasta Lucio, un jornalero de la familia. Las personas que se relacionan con los Barrieri se convertirán en un elemento fundamental para los acontecimientos que les afectan en un período tan difícil como la primera mitad del siglo XX. Una página de nuestra historia no demasiado conocida, sobre todo con respecto a la zona geográfica en la que se mueven los protagonistas: la Tuscia.
