Tras la muerte de José Antonio Primo de Rivera, Hedilla no sólo se quedó solo, sino que intentaron mantenerlo en un latente anonimato. Tuvo que pagar un alto precio, pues la cúpula de Falange Española se olvidó de su II Jefe Naci…onal. Se le acusó de alta traición. Se ideó todo un proceso sumarísimo para demostrar que, el II Jefe Nacional de Falange, tenía la intención de derrocar el poder establecido por el nuevo jefe del Estado. Para algunos era un golpista. Se le acusó de crímenes ajenos a él. Condenado a dos penas de muerte, algunas voces se levantaron para que no fuera fusilado. En el último momento Franco se las conmutó por cadena perpetua. Franco jugó un papel importante en todo este conflicto. Tal vez, como han apuntado algunas personalidades de Falange Española y algunos historiadores, el grave error de Hedilla fue no acercarse a Franco. También es cierto que Hedilla fue fiel al pensamiento de José Antonio y al cargo por el cual había sido elegido. Acercarse a Franco para obtener poder no estaba en su pensamiento. El caso de Manuel Hedilla Larrey no debe hacer reflexionar. Él fue, por decirlo así, uno de los vencedores. Sin embargo, vivió en propia carne la persecución del régimen franquista. Una persecución que nos ha llevado a llamarle el Olvidado. Sirvan estas páginas para conocer a un personaje importante de la vida política española, que llegó a ser el II Jefe Nacional de Falange Española y de las JONS pero que, por motivos políticos, quedó apartado, repudiado y encarcelado. No es un caso aislado. Otros muchos sufrieron la persecución -siendo vencedores- del franquismo. Quizás el conocimiento biográfico de Manuel Hedilla permita conocer otros casos similares. Dicen que la historia está escrita por los vencedores. Hedilla fue un perdedor y, por tanto, su historia se ha visto nublada por muchas mentiras y contradicciones. En estas páginas hemos desechado todo lo falso y hemos descrito los acontecimientos tal y como ocurrieron. Con el conocimiento de la verdad podremos conocer una personalidad, la de Manuel Hedilla, que si bien merece un reconocimiento histórico, en la realidad se nos presenta como un personaje desconocido e ignorado.
