Title label on front cover,hand-written, reads as above (taken from the title page) and adds "Co. A, 2nd N. H. Vol." Stapled. The covers show some spotting. Each page has text only on the recto. This is a bound typescript reproducing the letters of a Union soldier, typed by a granddaughter who had access to the originals or to copies of the originals. Some material is added by a son and by a daughter of John B. The typed copies include the letter written by Burrill about the battle of Gettysburg written to his (at the time) fiancé; this letter has been reproduced elsewhere. Most of the letters have never been published before. The 2nd N.H. fought in many of the major battles in the Virginia theater of the war: First and Second Bull Run, Fair Oaks, Malvern Hill, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, Cold Harbor, et al. This is a very rare item.
