The artist was both an architect and draughtsman but also an accomplished artist in watercolors and pencil. These 24 printings are taken from a collection of 145 sepia drawings of buildings structures in the City of Oxford made in the years 1810-1830. These drawings are a unique record of some of the less publicized buildings of Oxford in their early nineteenth-century setting. Laid-in is a small paper noting the price increase on the Picture Books increased to 5s on 24 June 1968. A clean very presentable copy.

Cloth is worn and rubbed; chipped and rounded and corners and spine ends, with some minor indentations on edges, spine sunned obscuring titles. Label on spine. Text block edges dust darkened. Previous owner's name neatly inked on the front free endpaper. Internally some minor signs of handling else neat and clean. Firmly bound and robust. John Chessel Buckler was the chief architect for Lincoln Cathedral in the mid 19th century. This is his virulent and controversial defence against his critics for the repair and restoration work undertaken at the Minster, as well as an exploration of the contemporary state of architectural restoration work om religious buildings.
