Complete translation of an important document of Japanese poetics: the Kindai Shuka of Fujiwara Teika (1162-1241), one of the greatest of Japanese poets and critics.The works consists of a short critical essay by Teika and a carefully arranged sequence of 83 poems by other hands. Despite the title the works draws on the previous three centuries. Prior to this edition only about a quarter of the work was available in a 1928 translation by Waley. Size: 8vo.
