O. S. Bragstad an der hiesigen Technischen Hochschule in den letzten Jahren vor seinem Tode (? 11. März 1927) abgehalten hat. Bragstad hatte häufig die Absicht geäußert, die Theorie der Wechselstrommaschinen in einer seinen Erfahrungen und seiner Einsicht entsprechenden Form zur Darstellung zu bringen. Doch ist es ihm leider nicht vergönnt worden, diese Idee zu verwirklichen. Einer der wesentlichen Gründe hierfür war unzweifelhaft der, daß seine Zeit und Arbeits kraft durch die Grundlegung und den weiteren Ausbau des Elektrotechnischen Instituts der hiesigen Technischen Hochschule und durch seine Wirksamkeit als Lehrer zu stark beansprucht wurde. Das Manuskript seiner Vorlesungen läßt jedoch vermuten, daß diese von ihm schon im Hinblick daraufhin aus gearbeitet wurden, einmal einem solchen Werke als Grundlage zu dienen. Nach dem unerwarteten Ableben Prof. Bragstads fiel mir die Aufgabe zu, seine Vorlesungen für die Drucklegung vorzubereiten, eine Aufgabe, die ich in Erinnerung an meinen verehrten Lehrer und Kollegen gern übernahm. Während der Ausarbeitung des Werkes zeigte es sich, daß an vielen Stellen Ergänzungen und Bearbeitung des überlieferten Stoffes notwendig wurden. Da der Umfang des Werkes in gewissen Grenzen bleiben mußte, mußten nach Herstellung des Manuskriptes an vielen Stellen Kürzungen vorgenommen werden.
