Seine Fotos aus der ehema…ligen DDR, aus Polen und Litauen, Georgien und Armenien, aus Albanien und Kuba markieren Schnittstellen zwischen alten und neuen Ansprüchen, Veränderungen im Erscheinungsbild von Städten und Landschaften und erzählen von den materiellen und psychologischen Problemen der Menschen. Auch dem Umgang mit christlichen Symbolen widmet Bohnen besondere Aufmerksamkeit. Zwischen der Zielstrebigkeit, mit der in den ehemals sozialistischen Ländern eine auffällige (Re-)Christianisierung forciert wird, und der Achtlosigkeit, mit der man christlichen Zeugnissen in Westeuropa und sogar Mexiko begegnet, werden krasse Unterschiede sichtbar. Der Band stellt mit dem Blick auf sozialistische und christliche Motive zwei große Fotozyklen Uli Bohnens einander gegenüber und zeigt damit beispielhaft die enorme Dynamik globaler Wandlungsprozesse unserer Zeit auf.
