Softcover. Condition: Fine. Leichte Kratzer / Abnutzungen / Druckstellen; Vergilbt / ausgeblichen.

Hardcover. Condition: new. Hardcover. A tender homage to the first generation of Turkish women migrating to the Netherlands"If only you knew." This is how many women began their stories when photographer Cigdem Yueksel (born 1989) visited them. They belong to the same demographic and generation as her grandmother: leaving Tuerki…ye to forge a new life in the Netherlands. In 1979, photographer Bertien van Manen took portraits of several of these women as part of the series Women as Guests. Now, in the 2020s, Yueksel has revisited some of these subjects and documented their stories not just through portraits, but also through their oral histories, letters and family albums. This more holistic approach gives way to a broader narrative of immigrant women navigating unfamiliar terrain while learning a new language and caring for their families. Now in their seventies and eighties, these women who formed the first generation of Turkish women migrants to the Netherlands have the chance to embed their stories within Dutch history. Paperback. Condition: New. There's no more controversial subject in the United States these days than immigration, legal or illegal. Americans can learn from this multilayered exhibition catalog, in which photographer Karijn Kakebeeke and journalist Eefje Blankevoort spend 18 months following the lives of a group of refugees who… win an immigration lottery in The Netherlands. Part socio-documentary, part anthropology, part political commentary, the book uses photography, texts and interviews to show how our world in turmoil uproots people's lives, and to ask whether anyone can really begin anew. Kakebeeke and Blankevoort address the opportunities and joy of the refugees but also the disappointments and the nostalgia for the lives they left behind. Did the refugees really win the jackpot.
